If you have a topic you want discussed (all local issues welcome) e-mail the Scallywag at scallywag.dorset@googlemail.com , we will then set up a new discussion topic and open it up for comments.
We welcome posts of an investigate nature from freelance journalists or would be journalists which will promote debate, we will however not tolerate any postings which are vexatious or abusive in content (these will be deleted).

I feel that the echo provides a good source of local stories, however it fails to provided a key ingredient when it comes to reading it, ENTERTAINMENT. In essence it is boring, with too much focus on the median issues in our life’s. Yes, I want to know what is going on around me, however spice it up a bit with what the people in the area think and do about it, let us read about the passion of the public, not just the facts. In essence, the echo worries about breaking its mould, this fear holds it back, which is a loss to us all, for it could be a paper of the people, which I feel could increase its circulation. I have seen too many posts on web sites, which made extremely good reading, for they offered the views and ideals of the public, yet the echo disregards them for they do not wish to cover a story in such a manner. I say this echo should be brave, win our minds, our hearts, by speaking up on the issues, not just reporting them.
the echo is a tabloid for the people of the area. i have challanged it to cover many controvercial issues . but it refuses . this paper is a part of the establishment . there is no investigative element . i would go as far as to say the echo should go alot further than it tends to pretend to . but then very little of the media or the public are interested in what is really going on .
I think the Echo give far to much coverage to a few local individuals and businesses, it seems to be somewhat of a "club". What about everyone else in the area and what they are doing. What about the hundreds of small local businesses that could do with the support and encouragement of their local paper, and provide so much employment to the area!!
I think for a small local radio station Wessex FM do a very good job, covering local news stories and offering a good mix of music and supporting local businesses and charities. Well Done!!
I think ITV Westcountry/BBC South West are a joke! We should receive ITV Meridian/BBC South here in Weymouth, they give more local news. Areas such as Dorchester & Lulworth can get it but not here in Weymouth! Infact even areas further west than Weymouth can get ITV Meridian?!! Why cant our local relay transmitters carry the signal from Rowridge instead of Stockland Hill??
We should receive ITV Meridian/BBC South here in Weymouth, they give more local news
